Veritas Counseling Center was opened in 1991 as the solo psychotherapy private practice of Shannon K. Spellman, M.S.W. Since 1991, Veritas Counseling Center has been the registered trade name and the practice was converted to a limited liability company in 2003. In 2008, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Learning were added to the practice. Continuing Education training for other professionals was also offered in the past. The office was closed in 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the therapist subequently retired after over 40 years of clinical practice experience.
Veritas, pronounced "ver' uh toss", is taken from the Latin word "verity" and was used as a symbol for Truth. Truth, in this sense, basically means the absence of denial. At Veritas Counseling Center, clients were gently encouraged to break through denial that kept them trapped in dysfunctional patterns so that they could move towards becoming their True Selves and being True to themselves.
At Veritas Counseling Center, LLC all clients were welcome regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, or religious affiliation. Ages treated included adolescents and adults.
Services available included individual, couples, family and group psychotherapy, equine assisted psychotherapy and learning, seminars, workshops, interventions, life skills coaching, intensive retreats, consultation and training.
